Johnston Press has agreed a deal with mobile marketing provider Velti to supply its promotional mobile communications.

The agreement will see Velti develop mobile platforms for the publisher, including SMS and other features with the aim of retaining reader loyalty.

This activity will include competitions, paid promotions and opt-in information alerts such as local bulletins with the platform allowing Johnston Press to monetise interaction and also manage traffic from puzzles, promotions and comment pages.

Leila Palmer, head of Enterprise Revenue Development at Johnston Press commented: “Our readers are increasingly consuming their news across a diverse range of media platforms. Our partnership with Velti will enable us to interact with our readers and build and develop new revenue streams.”

As part of the process Velti will integrate its mobile CRM platform across the publisher’s 18 daily newspapers, 253 weekly newspapers and 297 local websites.
