Nelson Mandela joins Twitterati
Nelson Mandela, at the ripe old age of 92, has become the latest celebrity to sign up for Twitter after successfully convincing Richard Millington, an online consultant, to hand over the @NelsonMandela name.
The tag has now been appropriated by the Mandela Foundation, a vehicle set up by the South African icon.
Users who sign up to follow the account, currently numbering around 4,000, can expect a daily diet of updates informing people of what the anti apartheid figure was up to on the given day throughout his life.
Sello Hatang, a spokesman for the Foundation, said: “We would like to encourage others who hold domains using Nelson Mandela's name to hand them over to the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.”
It is believed there are around 20 different social media accounts masquerading as Mandela on sites ranging from Facebook to Flickr.
