Global mobile advertising useage grows by 38% report finds

Global mobile advertising grew by 38% during the first quarter of this year a report has found.

According to the latest BuzzCity Report which oversees mobile advertising trends, the first quarter of 2011 has seen a strong growth for mobile advertising, growing by over a third (38%) to record 23.2billion ad impressions.

According to the report, central areas of growth have been found in Central and South America in countries such as Costa Rica, Mexico and Venezuela, as a result of cheaper rates and an improvement in the network capabilities.

Egypt has also show an increase of 144% this year, despite an internet blockage being implemented by its former government during protests in March.

Other countries showing growth include Spain at 225%, China at 130%, South Korea with 92%, Thailand (92%) and Turkey at 80%.

Nokia was the dominant service internationally for online mobile users with 46% of the market, followed by Samsung (12.5%) and Sony Ericsson (8.4%).

“Consumer demand for mobile content such as games continues to grow and advertisers are taking advantage of this by, for example using pay-per download games as a key part of ad campaigns. This is particularly true of certain mobile VAS players in Indonesia, South Africa, India, and Mexico,” commented BuzzCity CEO, Dr KF Lai.

“Advertisers and developers with products based on Java based platforms will have ample opportunities. However, prospects are likely to be better for those whose strategies also include Android and MTK/Maui platforms,” he added.

Android has also being a platform that has grown in popularity with gamers over the last three months research found.
