Martin Reynolds, head of marketing for Edinburgh Festivals has been named as the head of marketing and advertising for the Commonwealth Games 2014.

Reynolds, who joined Edinburgh Festivals in 2008 from Sydney Opera House, will tasked with the promotion and protection of the Glasgow 2014 and Commonwealth Games brands. He will also oversee the development of a strategy for the image and support the ticket sales programme, as well as the launch of the brand assets for the Games, the creation of advertising campaign and the launch of a number of brand assets, including the official Games tartan and the Games mascot.

Gordon Arthur, director of communications and marketing at Glasgow 2014, commented: “Martin will be a fantastic addition to our communications and marketing team. He brings with him a wealth of experience from major events and high profile projects such as Edinburgh Festivals, the National Galleries and the Sydney Opera House, where he has developed an excellent track record in developing audiences and selling tickets. These are crucially important areas for the success of Glasgow 2014. We can’t wait to get him on board.”

Reynolds added: “Leading the strategic marketing for Edinburgh’s Festivals has been a privilege, but joining the Organising Committee of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is just too good an opportunity to miss. Having delivered major awareness and ticketing campaigns for huge events at home and abroad, I’m looking forward to widely and innovatively promoting the Games, and being part of the team that will get residents and visitors alike supporting and enjoying Scotland’s largest ever sporting event.”

Reynolds will begin his role on 13 June, with Festivals Edinburgh now looking to recruit his successor.

Gordon Arthur recently discussed the imminent communications and marketing plans for the Commonwealth Games with The Drum, revealing that he had been promoted to the role of director communications and marketing, while John Donnelly had taken on the role of commercial director.
