Gio Compario, the operatic frontman for Go Compare’s TV advertising campaign, has been temporarily forced out of action after losing his voice.

Compario, real name Wynne Evans, blames his enforced vocal silence not on singing his lungs out on telly but on a never ending series of interviews surrounding his album, which has risen to number one in the classical charts.

A spokesperson for Morriston RFC choir, with whom Evans was due to play a concert, explained Evans’ withdrawal saying: “His voice is suffering and he’s been told to rest.”

Go Compare’s operatic efforts have been deemed to be one of the campaigns most out of tune with viewers, officially named and shamed as one of the most irritating ads of 2010.
