It has been revealed that BBC Radio Bristol presenter Peter Rowell, who briefly went missing last week, is being investigated by police for alleged sex offences.

52-year-old Rowell, who presents BBC Radio Bristol’s afternoon show, was reported missing last week, when he failed to turn up to work and was subsequently found safe and well the following day in the Lake District.

Mr Rowell has since been detained under the Mental Health Act and is subject to a police investigation for alleged sex offences.

Police have not released any information on the allegations and have stated that the presenter will need to be fit and well before they would progress the investigation.

It is thought that Rowell had become depressed following the death of his father; security cameras at a Morrison’s store near his home captured the presenter parking his car. He was found the next day in Keswick, Cumbria, after friends and family had suggested he may have gone there.
