Having received feedback on ‘Resign London’ from its creative industry Steering Group, Vision+Media chief Enda Carey has apologised for the way that the organisation has handled the campaign.

Earlier today, The Drum printed emails sent by the Steering Group in response to the campaign which aimed to attract London creative talent to the North West.

The campaign has been widely criticised by the creative industry in the region, and was described in one email as being potentially ‘detrimental’ to the industry in the north west.

Having received the feedback, Carey emailed the steering group members to issue an apology.

Here is his email in full:

I’ve seen the various comments to my email of the 24th and thought I should respond.

It certainly wasn’t my intention to criticise the Steering Group for not lending its support to the campaign. The point I was trying to make is that our aim and intention was for this to be an initiative ‘by industry, for industry’, and if this ceased being the case it was not going to work. I am disappointed to hear some of you feel that the Steering Group process didn’t work well – I know that we had some staff changes and funding cuts during the project, but it was critical that Vision and Media made sure the overall project was driven forward by you all and we clearly failed to ensure this happened for which I would like to personally apologise.

Finally, I’d like to thank you all for your time and contributions to the overall process – it was appreciated.

Regards

Enda

In reaction, one industry source commented: "He's a good guy who's not had an easy time of it. At least he's taken all of the crticism on board."

The Resign London campaign broke last month, but Vision + Media decided to ‘pull’ the campaign after the negativity that it provoked from the industry it was aiming to promote.
