The website for Highlands and Islands Airports (HIAL) has been overhauled to allow mobile transactions, while also incorporating social media and also a travel booking portal.

Developed by Rippleffect, the website will be available to travellers to and from HIAL’s 11 airports across the Scottish mainland, Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland Islands.

Alec Woolford, technical director at Rippleffect, explained: “The web has become a major route to market for airports to connect with travellers, raise awareness of services and drive usage.

He added that the new site would allow HIAL to take advantage of new revenue streams as it aims to increase its turnover and passenger figure while also creating opportunities which will allow it to capitalise on emerging and existing technologies such as mobile apps.”

Lynda Johnston, head of Business Development for HIAL, added: “The investment brings a change in the foundation of our online business. It was important to develop a great online presence that allows us to connect with our target customer base across Scotland, the rest of the UK, as well as a worldwide audience who is interested in visiting the country.”

Booking hotels and flights will also be available using Late Rooms and Skyscanner, through the site, while live departure and arrival data will also be available.
