The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising has welcomed recent reports that WPP could be set for a return to the UK.

News that Martin Sorrell (pictured), head of the world's largest advertising and media group, plans to reverse WPP’s move to Ireland once the budget measures have become law proved popular with the IPA, with finance director Alex Hunter saying they would be “delighted” to welcome WPP back to the country.

The government’s plans to cuts corporation tax and review the taxation of overseas profits of UK firms have proved alluring to the advertising group, which took its tax base out of the UK in late 2008 due to uncertainty over the future of UK taxation policy.

Hunter said of the proposed return: “Of course we would be delighted if WPP were to transfer its HQ back to London, which remains the global hub for creative industries. One would like to think a move would be more a reflection on Britain's UK's recovery prospects than on Ireland's, but there are also non financial factors to take into account in such a decision.”
