Bebo founder Michael Birch has re-entered the social networking fray with the launch of a networking site designed exclusively for grass roots political activists, Jolitics.com.

Launched ahead of Wednesday’s budget the initiative is intended to improve engagement between MPs and their constituents by allowing members to come forward with a proposal which is then debated, whereupon members have the opportunity to edit the wording of the proposal.

Should this achieve a 50% approval rating or higher it will be issued to the proposers MP.

Birch said: “I had this idea a long time ago, pre-dating Bebo. I wanted to go beyond the forums that lack the structure to do anything positive. As proposals on Jolitics come closer to being an acted item, it becomes powerful and could enable structured political debate.”

Powering the service will be custom built software which sorts proposals in accordance with users votes, which can be aligned by similar friends.
