StumbleUpon reportedly in the running to purchase Delicious
StumbleUpon is believed to have its eye on a takeover of rival bookmarking service Delicious in a $1m deal as Yahoo attempt to offload the property.
Yahoo has been attempting to flog the bookmarking service at a knock down rate since late last year after it emerged that the online portal had placed Delicous on a list of “sunset” assets for which it was seeking disposal.
It is thought Yahoo paid between $10 and $15m for the site in 2005.
Over the intervening period it is understood that the handful of engineers employed to develop manage the site were either fired or redeployed elsewhere within Yahoo, leaving only a skeleton staff.
Many of the sites 6m users have since migrated to other portals in this time, fearful that their bookmarks will be scrapped in any takeover.
The firm had lost its appetite for Delicious upon deciding that the service did not fit with its goal of being solely focussed on content creation and selling adverts.
