Biz Stone, the co-founder of Twitter, has joined AOL following its recent acquisition of The Huffington Post, as a strategic advisor.

Stone will be handed the title of ‘strategic advisor for social impact’ with AOL announcing that he has been recruited to ‘enhance innovation around social impact and cause-based initiatives. ’

“My goal is ambitious but vitally important. Together we will rally companies to think about new ways of doing business, share best practices, and strive for positive impact at all levels - from global to local,” explained Stone.

However it is understood that Stone will remain with Twitter, despite taking up the new role.

Days after AOL announced that it was to cut its global workforce by 20 per cent, it has announced several other new hires at The Huffington Post, which is acquired last month in a deal worth $315 million.

Also joining the company will be former New York Times and Los Angeles Times editor John Montorio, who joins as culture and entertainment editor, and Howard Fineman, a former analyst for NBC and MSNBC, who will become editorial director of the group.
