Alan McCabe, deputy editor of the Evening Express in Aberdeen has been promoted to the role of editor by its publishers Aberdeen Journals.

McCabe, who was only promoted to deputy editor at the paper last April, joined as a trainee in 1996.

He then moved onto the Daily Record as a sport reporter four-years-later but returned to the Evening Express in 2004 as chief sub editor.

He was then promoted to assistant editor, and then deputy editor.

McCabe replaces Damian Bates who has left to take over as editor of The Press and Journal following the early retirement of its editor Derek Tucker.
