The Drum understands that a meeting of creditors has been arranged for Bolton-based Big Spark Publishing, casting doubt over its future.

The company was founded by former Manchester Evening News marketing services manager Stuart Parker in 2003 and published a series of local news titles across the North West under the 'Independent' name.

It published papers in Cheshire, Rochdale, Bolton and Saddleworth along with airport magazines and other consumer titles.

Parker's position as a director was terminated last month. It is not yet clear whether the local newspapers will continue to be published.
