Journalist Suzanne Breen, who won a legal battle in 2009 protecting her sources into her investigation of the Real IRA, is to receive undisclosed damages, having sued the National Union of Journalists.

Breen sued the union following an article which appeared in the NUJ magazine commenting on her stance to protect her sources from police, following her investigation into the activities of the Real IRA.

As well as the damages, an apology to Breen and a retraction of the piece has also been agreed.

Breen won a legal battle which meant that she did not have to reveal her sources to police.

The case again the NUJ was brought by Breen despite her being a member for over 20 year.
