Future’s Official Nintendo Magazine is to become the World’s first gaming magazine to feature a 3D lenticular cover, to mark the launch of the Nintendo 3DS.

Issue 67, set for release on the 17th of March, will feature a collectible lenticular cover, which will show a 3D moving image, without the need for glasses.

The issue also marks a redesign of the magazine and will feature a new series of regular retro features and a new Connect section that will seek to strengthen ties with its fan base.

The lenticular cover was created by London-based Hive Associates.

“All the characters on the cover have volumetric depth, however the whole image has layered depth too,” said Hive Associate’s Mark Edmondson.

“So, not only does the main character appear to have volume but the image has extra depth with the characters appearing behind and at the sides.”

The magazine’s website is set to be simultaneously relaunched, with a greater emphasis on its community features.

“The refreshed mag and site are designed to make interacting with the huge ONM fanbase easier than ever,” said Neil Long, editor in chief of Future’s Nintendo Group.

“With a growing Facebook and Twitter presence on top of the monthly podcast and weekly TV shows on the Nintendo channel, the Official Nintendo Magazine brand continues to go from strength to strength across all platforms.”
