A Somerset-based company is seeking to bring pre-1980 video content to Apple's iTunes for users to download.

Somerset-based start-up Digital Video Singles (DVS), has secured £300,000 of funding so it can work with iTunes to provide the content.

“The problem with music videos that pre-date the MTV era is that it is often difficult to get to market due to the complexity of ‘rights issues’ despite the abundance of available content,” explained DVS director David Palmer.

“With the exclusive deal from iTunes, our extensive market knowledge and access to the big music archives, we believe we can overcome these barriers and deliver some fabulous content to the iTunes store.

The company claims that the funding will enable it to develop a catalogue of 3,000 performances, most of which have been impossible or very difficult to get hold of up until now, featuring artists like Bob Dylan, George Harrison, the Moody Blues and Paul McCartney.

The funding, secured from Horatio Investments, aims to help DVS get more content ready for download in preparation for the catalogue build.

DVS is a new project of Canadian-based production and distribution company, OVOW Communications Inc. In addition to the distribution of DVS performances to iTunes, the company also develops and produces television programming and feature films based on the imagery of music history.
