A new research and development unit has been launched by The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) which it hopes will create a hub for industry and academic research.

With the aim of developing public relations practice, the hub will provide links and access to research carried out by the industry, and will look to support members of the organisations who with to contribute to industry and academic research, while also matching investors with research providers.

Jay O’Connor, immediate past president of the CIPR, commented: “As the Chartered body for public relations, the CIPR has a clear and unequivocal commitment to the promotion of study, research and the development of public relations practice. The Unit, supported by a network of volunteers active in research, practice and teaching, will work with the profession to bring together what is a significant body of knowledge about PR practice.”

Plans already in place for the unit include helping to identify research needs, matching funds and commissions with researchers and also act as a source for CIPR members who consider applying for post-Diploma PR research programmes.

An open meeting has been planned for the Unit in May for those who may wish to engage with it or find out more.
