The InterContinental Hotels Group has given a second major branding brief to Pixel8, hiring the Manchester agency to carry out a brand refresh of Crowne Plaza.

The hotel giant first appointed Pixel8 in May last year, when the agency won a four-way pitch against US rivals to refresh the Hotel Indigo branding.

Now the agency, which will report into director of global brand management Ed Thorne, has said it has taken on five new members of staff to service the new contract.

Pixel8 co-director Jamie Watson said: "Once again we’ve been picked ahead of our international competitors. This is great news for Manchester and of course for Pixel8. Our relationship with IHG continues to go from strength to strength."

The first Crowne Plaza opened in Maryland in 1983 branded as the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza. Today there are more than 400 Crowne Plaza hotels in 52 countries.
