An archive featuring more than 500 episodes of BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs is set to be placed online.

The archive will be available to download from the Radio 4 website, which will also include the list of records, books and luxury items chosen by each guest should they ever find themselves on a deserted island, and be allowed to choose what they get to take with them.

Digital station Radio 4 Extra, which will replace Radio 7 in April will also air several classic shows, which sees each guest asked to chose eight pieces of music they would take to their deserted island with them.

Presenter Kirsty Young will update classic shows being transmitted on Radio 4 Extra while hour-long versions of recent episodes featuring unaired material will also be broadcast as repeats while the programme is off-air for 10 weeks.
