Under the watchful gaze of their fans, the pop band Maroon 5 will compose and record a new song in just 24 hours as part of a new campaign for Coca-Cola.

The 24 hour session will be streamed live on the Coca-Cola Music microsite and fans will be able to chip in with their suggestions for lyrics, riffs and rhythms.

Overseeing it all on 22 March will be the advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy.

Its interactive creative director, Iain Tait, said: "Coke challenged us to come up with a way to enable people everywhere to take part in the 24hr Session. We were really excited about taking an opportunity to fuse together social media and the recording studio. Crashing together the everyday social world of teenagers, and the exclusive and inaccessible world of the recording studio.

"We’re hoping to create something that feels part video game, part pop video and part reality TV show.”

In the studio a projection system will stream the comments of fans onto the walls and direct to the band. The real-time visuals will be entrusted to Nexus Interactive Arts directing duo Hellicar&Lewis.
