The Guinness Book of Records has entered the sale of domain name sex.com for £8.2m as the highest price paid for an online site name.

The deal, which was brokered by sale house Sedo last November, has been entered into the records, having been sold following the bankruptcy of previous owner Escom LLC to Clover Holdings.

Kathy Nielsen, director of sales for Sedo, commented: "The sale of Sex.com was truly a team effort. We spent about two years with the domain, establishing the relationship, researching and finding the right buyer and managing the domain’s transfer.

"We’re honoured that Sedo was trusted with such a high-value and high-profile sale, and we’re ecstatic that it is now being recognized by Guinness World Records as a record-breaking deal."
