The Telegraph has become the latest paper to announce plans to introduce a paywall with the title aiming for a September roll out.

Several digital agencies are said to be in talks with Telegraph Media Group with a view toward overhauling the site.

It is thought that that rather than go down the route of a rigid payment structure the publisher will instead pursue a hybrid strategy, allowing readers to access a limited quantity of content for free in order to entice them into opening their wallets for more.

Like most newspaper titles the broadsheet has been hit by falling sales of its print edition, necessitating the need to raise its cover price by 10p and establish alternative revenue streams.

Telegraph.co.uk received 31m visitors in December of last year, well behind market leader MailOnline which welcomed 54m people.
