Sarah Brown ranked top tweeter

The Independent has revealed its top 100 Twitter users, with Sarah Brown heading the list compiled alongside the social media monitoring group PeerIndex.

The newspaper referred to the list as 'UK's Tweet elite' and listed broadcaster Richard Bacon, comedians Eddie Izzard, Stephen Fry and economist Umair Hague in the top five. Daily Telegraph fashion journalist Hilary Alexander came joint eighth with Zee M Kane, editor-in-chief of influential technology website The Next Web.

Felix Salmon, a financial blogger for Reuters came twelfth with a PeerIndex score of 76 while Guardian technology journalist Jemima Kiss and TechCrunch Europe editor Mike Butcher were deemed as influential as Sir Alan Sugar, all sharing 14th place with scores of 71.

Other notable media folk in the list include business journalist Tim Harford, Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger, broadcasters Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Rory Cellan-Jones and Robert Peston and Roger Highfield, editor of the New Scientist.
