Vision+Media will made 40% of its workforce redundant before April, the creative sector support body has announced.

The organisation has been affected by the loss of funding support from the North West Development Agency and the UK Film Council, as part of public sector budget cuts.

Vision+Media will merge to become part of Creative England in October, working alongside eight regional organisations in promoting creative sectors across the UK.

Paul Taylor, chief executive of Vision+Media commented: “Over the past four years, Vision+Media has built a talented and dedicated team, and having to lose any of them is difficult but that is the reality of where we are.”

He continued to say that a large amount of the organisations funding would ‘disappear’ by the end of this financial year, which meant that it would need to downsize.

“It is a difficult process but we are encouraged that the government recognises the importance of continuing focused support for the wealth of creative talent, culture and enterprise that exists outside of London,” he added.

“Despite the changes, Vision+Media will continue to deliver on our existing programmes and services across the digital and creative sector over the coming months.”

The changes will begin to take affect from the end of March.
