A huge rise in the number of Facebook employees could be on the way . The company is moving its corporate headquarters to the former Sun Microsystems campus in Menlo Park, California, a 57-acre property on the edge of San Francisco bay.

The move, long rumoured, will take place by the end of this year, the San Jose Mercury News is reporting. Facebook currently has around 1,400 employees in Palo Alto and the first will move in June or July. The Sun campus has nine buildings, 1 million square feet of space and room for 3,600 workers. Even more expansion could be on the cards: Facebook recently bought a 22-acre adjacent property where it could house additional employees . "What we were seeking was a place where we could pull everybody together in one place," said Facebook Chief Financial Officer David Ebersman. "We feel it's really important to have our employees in one location. That maximises their opportunity to interact with one another." "Menlo Park is where Cisco started; it's where Google started, and they went someplace else. Facebook started somewhere else, and they came here," said Menlo Park Mayor Rich Cline. Facebook will have a specific recruiter assigned to help Menlo Park residents find jobs with the social networking company, Meetings with residents about potential jobs on the new campus have already started,
