Liverpool and Manchester PR consultancy Paver Smith has converted to become a Limited Liability Partnership, while also appointing Jon Brown as its first managing partner.

Brown, promoted from head of strategy, spent five years as deputy and acting editor of the Liverpool Echo, before setting up his own agency, Factory Communications, which was acquired by Paver Smith in 2006.

Former managing director Dougal Paver (pictured) will take on a senior partner role alongside director Rachel Smith and Martyn Best, with all remaining on the board. Smith will oversee the agency's strategic communications and public consultation businesses, while Best will oversee all financial matters.

The management team is completed by Chris Hulme, Helen Strother and Jane Woodhead, who have all acquired equity and become Partners of the new LLP.

Meanwhile, head of creative Tom Taylor, has also been made a partner with a brief to grow that side of the business.

Dougal Paver, said: “Jon was the outstanding candidate to head the executive that will take our partnership forward. His management experience in the newspaper industry and establishing his own business has already proved invaluable to us and delivered some of our most significant client wins. By taking on these boardroom responsibilities Jon will also afford me the opportunity to oversee a number of key areas for business growth.”

Former Paver Smith chairman David Heal, previously the CEO of Harrison Cowley, is now chairman of the LLP and has also taken an equity share in the agency.

A pre-pack deal saw the LLP acquire the business of Paver Smith & Co, which was created following a management buyout of Paver Downes in 2006.
