James Micklethwait, digital strategist at the BBC has been appointed by ITV to the newly created role of director of product strategy.

He joins the commercial broadcaster with the task of over seeing online product strategy, audience research, web analytics, CRM, homepage management, innovation and strategic partnerships with the aim of achieving ITV’s five-year transformation to develop its premium content across multiple channels.

He joins as the online and on demand business at ITV undergoes a restructure, with a number of new roles set to be created for ITV Player and ITV.com, including the creation of an online and on demand leadership team.

Robin Pembrooke, managing director of ITV.com, explained: “Our short term goals of improving and distributing the ITV Player and the design and functionality of ITV.com are clear and there’s great momentum building around both.

“This is one of the many changes we’ve already made in the last three months to get ITV fit to compete in the online and on demand space.”
