Nintendo has announced the price of its new 3D handheld gaming system, the 3DS, ahead of its release in the States - a hefty $250.

The glasses-free 3D device will launch on 27 March with over 30 titles, with a number of classic games converted to offer the 3D experience. Nintendo of America’s COO and President Reggie Fils-Aime revealed the release date, price, and games for the long-awaited 3DS gaming system at an event in New York yesterday.

An earlier review in tech blog Mashable described the device’s 3D features, saying "it doesn’t create the pop-out effect that 3D movies do, it’s more like looking into a hole, but it does enhance the animation and effectively pull you into scenes."
