Imperial War Museum North has appointed Manchester agency Hemisphere to design its major exhibition for 2011 following a three-way pitch.

'War Correspondent' will be the tenth exhibition Hemisphere has designed for the Salford Quays museum since they first started working together in 2003.

It will feature the personal experiences of journalists including Richard Dimbleby, Brian Hanrahan and Kate Adie.

Sue Vanden, director at Hemisphere, said: "This exhibition will present visitors with a wealth of thought-provoking stories and imagery and our design challenge is to convey them in a way that brings to life the sense of drama, excitement and danger encountered by war reporters, whilst at the same time allowing visitors to question what they may have seen or heard about things in the past."

Rachel Knight, head of exhibitions at Imperial War Museum North, said the agency had proposed a design approach that is both "sensitive and thought-provoking".

Hemisphere's previous exhibitions for the museum have included 'Shaped By War: Photographs by Don McCullin' and 'Captured: The Extraordinary Life of Prisoners of War'.
