A Coca-Cola ad promoting its Vitamin Water branded drinks has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority for misleadingly claiming the beverages to be “nutritious”.

The drinks firm retorted that it was justified in using the term because each bottle contained 100% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C amongst other vitamins.

However the ASA ruled that this was “misleading” as the drink contained up to five teaspoons of added sugar and that consumers might mistakenly believe that the drink contained added ingredients needed by the body to remain healthy.

In consequence the advert can no longer be reproduced in its current form.
