Merseyside’s five specialist hospitals have clubbed together to appoint public relations consultancy Bell Pottinger to showcase the region as specialist healthcare capital of the UK.

Alder Hey Children’s, Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Liverpool Women’s and The Walton Centre have been christened as The Famous Five by the firm, which has secured coverage on BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC NW Tonight and Granada Reports.

Mel Pickup, chief executive of The Walton Centre and spokesperson for the Famous Five said: “All the hospitals feel it is important that people living on Merseyside know about the expertise that is on their doorstep.

“Each is devoted to one area of care and their people and equipment means they are able to provide breakthrough treatments unavailable anywhere else in the UK. As such they attract patients not only from the north west region but elsewhere in the UK and even overseas.”
