Royal Mail Thunderbirds stamps are go!
The Royal Mail is set to honour the work of 1960s puppet master Gerry Anderson with a string of custom designed stamps released today - no strings attached.
The set of “motion stamps” depicts Anderson’s fantastic technological creations in action including Thunderbird 2 launching from Tracy Island and a close up look of the waxen Captain Scarlet.
Less well known series such as Joe 90, Fireball XL5 and Stingray are also depicted on the thumb size memorabilia.
Printed using microlenticular technology the stamps create the illusion of movement when tilted to show the launch of the various vehicles.
Each frame has been drawn by Gerry Embleton, illustrator of 1960s comic TV Century 21. The stamps are intended to reproduce a ‘comic’ style when viewed together in a special presentation pack.
The series was designed by GBH, a design and advertising agency based in London.
