North Korea may lack such basic essentials as electricity, freedom and food but even the hermit kingdom hasn’t been slow to reap the benefits (and pitfalls) of the social media craze.

Unfortunately for Kim Jong-un, the nations secretive heir apparent, it was the latter which greeted him on his birthday as South Korean hackers gained access to the regimes Twitter account, transforming the daily diet of patriotic posts for a slew of calls for an uprising.

This coincided with a satirical video of the hapless heir driving his sports car into a series of women and children.

The unwelcome birthday messages contained unflattering remarks on the ruling dynasty, describing them as “our people’s sworn enemies.”

North Korea’s online presence is run from a bank in Shenyang via the Uriminzokirri website.
