SKV Communications has been appointed by Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charity to raise awareness of their fundraising work.

The Manchester PR agency has started work by calling on children's mascot Humphrey Bear and Waterloo Road actor Jason Done to encourage people to enter the Great Manchester Run.

It has enrolled the services of British Military Fitness instructor James Clark to put Humphrey and Done through their paces.

Alongside this campaign SKV will be running a business-to-business push to raise funds from regional SMEs. Its Many Hands campaign will be fronted by Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis.

Geraldine Vesey, director of SKV Communications, said: "It’s a real challenge for a hospital based charity to raise funds as there is an expectation that the NHS funds everything.

"The children’s hospital for example, needs funds for play to occupy and distract youngsters who may be worried about forthcoming treatments, and it’s this type of thing that we need to draw attention to."
