NOOK owners buy 1 million books on Christmas Day – rivals Kindle

Following news that Kindle became Amazon’s biggest selling product in 2010, another e-reading device has claimed a best seller, this time at U.S book retailer Barnes & Noble. According to a company press release, the e-reader has become the company’s biggest bestseller in its 40-year history. Company figures show nearly one million ‘NOOKbooks’ were purchased and downloaded on Christmas Day. The retailer also announced that it now sells more digital books than its physical book business on BN.com, the world’s second largest online bookstore. BBC increases Digital Radio coverage

The BBC has announced it launched 30 new national digital radio transmitters around the UK in 2010, increasing the availability of digital radio for an additional three quarters of a million people and improving DAB coverage for over 8.5 million people in the country. The broadcaster claims to have improved coverage in Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as roll out new transmitters in rural areas across England and Wales. The announcement concludes that the BBC remains on target to meet its aim of DAB serving 92% of the population by the end of 2011 and will bring a further 40 transmitters into service next year.
