A YouGov poll of tablet owners has revealed that 17% of iPad owners have access to a second tablet device, either owned by themselves or a family member whilst a further 19% of tablet owners stated that they intended to buy a second device.

The preponderance of multiple household tablets is attributed by the researchers to the activities of fellow family members who often hog the device with 37% of iPad users sharing the device with partners and 14% with their children.

Researchers attributed this inter generational demand to the devices user friendly nature and a focus on leisure functions as opposed to business related activities.

Loyalty to existing brands also remains strong, the survey found. A hefty 71% of iPad owners looking for a second device would plump for another iPad, although the researchers noted that an influx of new devices could increase the current 18% of iPad owners who opt for a rival device.
