The Co-operative has launched its new virtual Christmas cracker mobile phone app to promote the chance to win tickets to see Take That in concert.

Developed by Blumungas working closely with Rapp Edinburgh, the free-to-download iPhone and Android app can be used like a Christmas cracker, which can be pulled to reveal recipes, Christmas games, and jokes.

Money-off voucher links will also be included in some of the 24 crackers or free entry into a prize draw for a selection of prizes, including tickets for the sold out 2011 Take That tour as well as tickets to the live X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing shows.

Family games such as Charades, Pictionary and Taboo are also contained in some of the crackers, while scores and comments can be shared through the app’s email, Facebook and Twitter function.

Oliver Kumawu, development manager at The Co-operative, said: “The Co-operative Christmas Cracker app is not only useful, but also really fun. With games for the whole family to enjoy, and tasty Christmas recipes to inspire shoppers over the festive period, it really is a great twist on traditional Christmas crackers. With Christmas fast approaching, here is an app to keep everyone entertained throughout the festive period. full service, integrated global agency.”
