Following the announcement that production company Raise the Roof, co-owned by tv presenters Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer, was opening a Glasgow office, managing director Jane Muirhead answers a few questions about the move.

Why choose Glasgow as the place to open an office?

We’re very proud and excited to be based in Scotland. Glasgow has an incredibly vibrant television production community and the level of support and goodwill we’ve received has been quite overwhelming. We’ve had a huge amount of support from Scottish Enterprise, Channel 4 and the BBC to help us realise our ambitions as a company.

What will the Glasgow operation be tasked with overseeing?

Raise the Roof only has a base in Glasgow so Sarah and I will be overseeing all output across all formats. We set the company up to develop new formats using the cream of local talent, so we're delighted to be employing two large and very busy productions teams already! Glasgow is a great city to be based in with its vibrant creative sector.

What is the aim of Raise the Roof now that it has grown in size? Will the slate aim to extend beyond productions featuring Kirstie and Phil at some stage?

To build a strong core development team and expand our content across all digital platforms. Watch this space!

How do you see the production industry in the UK at the moment?

The independent production sector is in good shape, but like any other business, we all face challenges in this economic climate. Raise the Roof believe that a strong digital strategy should be a keystone of our business going forward, by building strong brands that have a life beyond programme transmission.
