David Cameron may have failed in his bid to bring the 2018 World Cup to England but that hasn’t stopped the Prime Minister from mounting a bid to bring Twitter’s mooted HQ to London.

A Twitter delegation were met at Number 10 last Thursday by the PM and London Mayor Boris Johnson in a bid to woo the micro blogging site to London as opposed to a rival European capital.

It will be Twitter’s first office outside America, a carrot which prompted the high powered political charm offensive with other technology partners and advertising execs also brought in to hob nob.

Cameron’s party appeared to succeed in impressing Twitter’s head of international strategy. Katie Jacobs Stanton, although he may still be smarting from broken promises from FIFA execs. She tweeted: “Hugely impressed with PM Cameron @MayorOfLondon & the @Number10gov teams.”

A spokesperson for Twitter refused to commit to the UK however: "We are considering London and other European locations to create an initial and small presence in 2011."

The government’s plea comes as Cameron attempts to turn his vision for a “Silicon Valley” in the east end of London into a reality.

East London Tech City has already signed up firms including Google and Facebook.
