With 2010 drawing to a close Google has taken the opportunity to trawl its database to elicit the top search topics of 2010.

They reveal that the overall most searched term of the period was Facebook, closely followed by the BBC, Youtube, Ebay and… yes, people searching for Google itself.

Perhaps surprisingly Argos tops the list of High Street brands with the catalogue retailer usurping its omnipresent rival, Tesco, which had to settle for second best.

Other popular keyboard strokes in Google’s search bar turned out to be Next, Asda and John Lewis, the trio serving to round off the top five retailers.

Interestingly 1990s boy band Take That took pole position for ticket searches, the crooners proving they can still take on upstarts such as Lady Gaga and Michael Buble.
