The launch of a new public information notices portal by Scottish councils aims to make an annual saving of £3m.

The tellmescotland.gov.uk site, designed and built by Spider Online having been appointed by the Convention of Scottish Local Authroities (COSLA), the site aims to offer councils the option to save spend on its advertising recruitment notices through the use of its own online portal.

The site covers Glasgow, Edinburgh and South Lanarkshire local authorities and will offer itself as a platform to publish the public notices for the 32 Scottish local authorities, which are legally required to advertise.

The site allows visitors to click on a virtual map of listings of public notices in their area, satellite imagery of their location and information on the issues involved. The aim is to provide the public with improved accessibility to statutory information and to help councils save money on advertising.

John Campbell, managing director of Spider Online, explained; "Tell Me is using the web to allow the public and community groups to find out about PIN's (public notices) in their area. The site has been developed with the latest user centric design techniques and utilises Google Maps to make the user experience intuitive and straightforward."

Spider Online also oversaw the development of the local authorities recruitment portal myjobscotland.gov.uk.

Earlier this year, The Scottish Government was lobbied against creating an online platform to host its public notice adverts by the Scottish Newspaper Society, and saw the motion voted down by MSP’s.
