Interactive Dimension has been appointed to develop the website for the historic Preston Guild celebrations.

Last month The Drum revealed the branding, created by The Chase, for the next Preston Guild in 2012. Now local agency ID is working on how it will be applied online.

The Guild dates back more than 800 years and the modern celebration, held in the Lancashire city once every 20 years, features a programme of age-old civic traditions mixed with contemporary events.

ID was appointed after a competitive-pitch to turn the Guild's current website into an interactive hub for the 2012 celebration.

The agency said the Guild has to be "sensitive to the economic climate" so its proposal made use of "third party data and existing platforms". The new social media-heavy site will go live "very early in 2011".

There are further plans for mobile sites, itinerary planners, accommodation searching tools and location-based 'check-in' awards for people attending in 2012.

ID's strategic account director, Jonny Wilde, said: "Of course it all has to look beautiful too and we think we've extended the brand really well… The pitch was great fun, made even more interesting by our Creative Director having to shoot off to his wife who was having a baby! So I was left holding the baby as it were.

"The key thing was we'd really thought through the requirement which was obviously evident to The Guild and we are chuffed to have won the pitch."
