Japanese icon Hello Kitty is embroiled in a catfight with Dutch graphic designer Dick Bruna over claims the Japanese copied the Dutch designer's ‘Miffy’ creation.

The dispute centres on a purple dressed ‘Cathy’ doll, a rabbit designed by Kitty creator Sanrio to ensure their cartoon range scaled fresh heights of cuteness.

Similarities abound in the design of the two rabbits however, from the minimalist white design, to an unnerving large head.

Suspecting more than mere coincidence Bruno successfully sued Kitty's creator, Sanrio, in the Netherlands this week. A result which could see the firm face heavy litigation penalties in the territory.

Despite being designed in 1955 Miffy has failed to catch on to anything like the degree of her Japanese twin, which now courts a multi billion dollar merchandising empire.
