King to become Asda's chief operating officer

Asda has today announced that Simon King, currently chief executive of Saudi Arabia-based supermarket chain Panda, will be its new chief operating officer in 2011.

King is a former CEO of Tesco Kipa in Turkey and previously ran Tesco's international operations in South Korea, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.

He will take the role vacant by Andy Clarke who has become Asda's president and CEO.

Clarke said: "I'm thrilled to welcome Simon to Asda. In his career, he's demonstrated his talents as both a strategic leader and a day-to-day operator in large complex retail businesses."
