Pepsi takes a pop at Coke
The long running cola battle between two of the beverages biggest brands has taken a new twist after PepsiCo pledged to outdo its arch rival in the reduction of carbon emissions and water consumption in its UK plants.
The pledge constitutes an ambitious 50% reduction in both and has left Coca Cola’s own plans to boost efficiency looking a little flat.
PepsiCo, which counts Walkers Crisps amongst its brands, plans replace its potato varieties with those requiring less water and mount a simultaneous switch to low carbon fertilisers over the next five years.
If the British experiment succeeds the techniques will be rolled out worldwide.
