Creative Concern behind Lennon monument PR campaign

Manchester agency Creative Concern has helped generate worldwide media coverage for the European Peace Monument, a memorial to John Lennon in Liverpool.

Creative Concern was tasked to handle the PR launch of the 18ft monument, which was unveiled by John Lennon's son Julian and first wife Cynthia earlier this month on what would have been the Beatle's 70th birthday.

The unveiling in Liverpool's Chavasse Park was attended by dignitaries from all over Europe and was recorded by the world's media.

BBC News 24 and Sky News broadcast the event live and it reached a global audience of millions by being syndicated nationally by CBS in the US.

US network NBC, Russia's NTV, Japan's KGL, China's CNC, Germany's ZDF and Italy's RAI created their own packages of interviews from the event.

The story and images from the day received print coverage around the world in the Sunday Times and News of the World through to USA Today and the Wall Street Journal.

Richard Hector-Jones, senior PR officer at Creative Concern, described it as the agency's "biggest and most successful PR campaign to date".

The event was commissioned by Liverpool attraction the Beatles Story, and the launch of the monument is the first stage in its new two-year strategic PR campaign.
