The BBC has been accused of being “spineless” after the broadcaster removed controversial footage of a shoe being thrown at the Greek prime minister from their website, only to promptly put it back online again.

Veteran correspondent Malcolm Brabant filmed the fashionable stunt earlier this month when 20,000 protestors accosted the Greek leader in the city of Thessaloniki over austerity measures.

The dithering stemmed from allegations made by Greek government supporters that the video had been fabricated, eliciting the fury of Brabant who protested strongly at the BBC’s actions.

Reports in the guardian suggest that Brabant is “furious” at his treatment and fears that the damage done to his reputation by the videos temporary removal will preclude further work in the region.
