Artist Bob & Roberta Smith and immprint have designed the D&AD Annual 2010.

D&AD10: The Best Advertising and Design in the World will be available in both limited members’ edition and general Taschen release from mid-November.

Famous for his multi-coloured signs painted onto a diverse range of materials, Bob & Roberta Smith follows in the footsteps of British artists Peter Blake and Allen Jones who have both designed ‘The Book’ in the past. D&AD will partner with Taschen for the second time to produce both two versions of the year’s best creative work.

The book features over 500 works that represent the best in advertising, design and interactive from around the world. Over 20,000 pieces of work were judged by industry experts at the D&AD Awards 2010, including Black Pencil-winning The High Line, Trillion Dollar Flyer, The Best Job in the World, and Apple.com. The book includes commentary from jury members on why the work won.

“My love for Bob & Roberta Smith’s work goes back 13 years when I bought one of his early alphabets,” said Paul Brazier, D&AD President. “His approach fits right in with D&AD’s ethos – he’s got an impressive focus on craft and works across all manner of disciplines. He’s also very generous with his time and experience. He teaches, supports other artists and sits on the board of the Tate.”

Brazier continues, “The opportunity to choose who designs the Annual is one of the great privileges of being President. I must admit I’ve always held a secret ambition to design the book myself, but I think Bob and Roberta Smith will bring a unique, ‘outsider’s’ eye to this year’s annual.”

“There is an important message at the heart of this Annual. Everything is Made. This statement appealed to me on every fundamental principle of being a creative. The fact that everything we create is born of us, starting with a blank piece of paper and finding the inspiration and motivation to not just answer a brief but to do something different, something special and dare I say it, original.”
