442 Design is celebrating the opening of its Start Living Shop, a concept store in Edinburgh’s St James Centre which showcases the measures and products which can assist people in leading more sustainable lifestyles.

The shop forms part of the Prince of Wales’s Start initiative, a programme which aims to encourage individuals to modify their behaviour in ways which lower their impact on the environment.

442 took on two empty shop units for the premises, instigating a bright and friendly design that aims to communicate global issues to shoppers.

442 Managing Director David Dunn said: "The Start Living Shop tries to push environmental issues up the agenda for the general public by communicating in a simple, relevant way. We have expertise in this area and the environment is rightly becoming more influential in design decisions."

The Edinburgh-based agency recently won a Scottish Design Award for its point-of-sale 'Green Trees' for Land Securities. The Trees concept was also shortlisted alongside its designs for the new Black & Lizars optical stores for the Roses Awards to be judged in October this year.
